Takashi Hilferink bio

I live and work in Toronto. I love Canada (or Turtle Island), beer, dogs, graffiti, long walks on train tracks by the bomb shelter…

Experiences at present which compel me to make work:

  • that capital (the means to ‘surplus’) is fundamental to scarcity; that art institutions often function to preserve the “scarcity” of artistic skill or talent.
  • hamburgers, hoodies and high art alike – the means, methods and origins of our consumer goods go largely unacknowledged and are often hidden from view.
  • that North American cultures seem characterized by an almost complete amnesia and poor sense of agency.
  • that the widening gulfs between theory and application (in most things anyway) may have ever been this great – but never this multivalent
